Noida: Activist says 40 trees damaged in Sec. 62 green belt; alleges Forest Dept. inaction


A tree activist of Gautam Budh Nagar has alleged that Noida Authority has cut down large trunks of at least 40 trees in a green belt behind Tot Mall in Sector 62, Noida, at the behest of a senior official of Forest Department.

According to complainant Pradeep Dahaliya who holds the post of treasurer of NGO SPEnBIO, the green belt is surrounded by high-rises. He said that some influential persons of one of the apartment complexes is behind cutting of the trees in this brutal manner.

Dahaliya complained on the online IGRS portal on Oct 11 however even after 3 days no action has been taken against the offenders, he said,  after which he informed the District Forest Officer (DFO) of Gautam Budh Nagar. A team of Forest Department did come to visit the spot however no action as yet has bene taken, alleged Dahaliya who said that this is in violation of NGT order of 2015 in which important guidelines were issued by the Tribunal for upkeep of trees in Noida area. He also said that cutting and lopping of trees is rampant in the green belt in an unauthorized manner but the Forest Department is unable to take any action due to reasons best known to them. He demanded urgent attention from higher authorities for compliance of green court orders regarding ban on tree cutting. Officials of Noida Authority could not be contacted. reporter
