NGT turns down industry’s plea to open; says relief meant only for victims of pollution

Maintaining that its statute provides for relief only for victims of environmental pollution, the National Green Tribunal in an important order refused to entertain the petition of Dewan Rubber Industries Ltd. in Meerut that was closed down by the district magistrate for causing pollution back in August 3, 2018.

The said industry had sought to re-start operations and asked for time to put in place anti-pollution measures. The principal bench of NGT said that as per Section 14 (read with Sec 15) of the NGT Act, 2010 the relief sought is only meant for victim of pollution and dismissed the application. reporter
