G’bad: Green belt at Sanjay Nagar turned into waste dumping site

This is despite an NGT order asking the Chief Secretary of UP to ask all departments to protect as well as remove encroachments and unauthorized trespass from green areas

Heaps of waste matter as well as cattle dung has been dumped inside the green belts on roadsides and just anywhere, in P & G blocks (near NITRA) of Sanjay Nagar, pointed out environmentalist Akash Vashishtha, a resident of Raj Nagar himself.

He also pointed out to the insensitive manner in which the waste matter is cleared up—once in a while and said that “whenever JCB comes, it uproots all the plants while removing the waste.”

Vashishtha informed that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on his petition had directed the Chief Secretary of UP, in an order dated September 5, 2016, to direct all agencies such as Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN), UPSIDC, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) among others, to ensure that green belts in their area of jurisdiction across Ghaziabad district are not encroached upon illegally and in an unauthorized manner as well as to see that these are protected.

Vashishtha had appealed to the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam to clean these sites with immediate effect and had also urged the Pollution Control Board to act accordingly.
