Jal Panchayat held at Gr. Noida village


On occasion of 74th Independence Day, the team of Social Action for Forest & Environment (SAFE) organized a Jal Panchayat at Khanpur village of Greater Noida. Founder of SAFE & environmentalist Vikrant Tongad said the legacy that our forefathers left with us— of natural bounty and resources are being exploited to the hilt nowadays, as a result it has had an adverse effect in our lives. He said that with cutting of trees all over the temperature of earth is rising due to which we are facing several environmental issues such as climate change and excess heat.

According to Tongad everyone should come together to fulfill the wishes of our forefathers of a better India and that can be done through conservation of the environment.

President of Mahila Unnati Sanstha Dr Rahul Verma said that about 20 years’ back the groundwater level of Gautam Budh nagar was at 20 feet that had plummeted to 150-200 feet now. This, he said has resulted in dysfunctional handpumps. This is a serious issue and needs to be tackled, he added.

The coordinator of the Jal Panchayat was Anil Bhati. Others that were present included Dr Devender Nagar of Ummeed Sanstha, Vikas Tongad, Ranveer Choudhary, Devendra Chandila, Vijay Tanwar, Sunil Bhati, Akash Tongad, Jagesh Kumar and Rajendra Bhati.
