The National Green tribunal (NGT) has directed a joint committee of the CPCB, IIT Delhi and DPCC to conduct an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) study on the DMRC’s proposal to develop a “property” at the underground Metro station at Bhikaji Cama Place in Delhi. The DMRC had moved the DDA to change the land-use of a land that as per the petitioner was a district park. The petition had alleged that the construction by the DMRC will go against the environmental norms and the public trust doctrine.

A report from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Delhi was sought by the NGT. In the report submitted to the NGT the PCCF had suggested carrying out a proper Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) study for the project development by DMRC to assess the actual quantum of impact on the traffic, air quality, water quality and the overall environment and ecology of the area around the proposed Project Development activities.

The joint committee will have to submit the report to the NGT in 3 months.
