Municipal Commissioner, Dinesh Chandra Singh has appealed to the public to pay their property tax dues on time to avoid penal provisions that the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) is planning against defaulters. The GNN that has been given a target of Rs 188 crores of revenue generation through taxes for the fiscal 2019-20 has so far managed to collect Rs 111 crores which is Rs 20 crores more than revenue collected during same tie in the year 2018-19 (last year). The GNN has been sending tax demand notices to 1,627 defaulters with pending dues of Rs 50,000 and above. If such defaulters do not pay up their house/property tax in a time-span of 15 days from receiving the notice then the GNN is proceeding to attach their assets after issuing them warrants.
The GNN has also come down hard on defaulting Central and state government offices such as railways, ESI, police, hospital, post offices among others who have been asked to pay up their dues soon or else penal provisions shall be invoked against these offices as well, said a GNN communication.
All zonal incharges have been asked to expedite tax collections in their zones. Those property owners who fail to clear their tax dues up to March 31 will be charged a penalty of 12% annual interest on their tax dues.
