National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently asked the UPPCB and Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation to take action against illegal dairies at Chiranjiv Vihar that are polluting the environment.

The NGT also directed that compensation be recovered from the polluters—polluters pay principle—and rapped the authorities for not doing anything apart from issuing mere notices.

The petitioner Ved Prakash Aggrawal had alleged that illegal dairies in Chiranjiv Vihar were damaging the environment after which the NGT had asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), UPPCB, DM And Municial Commisisoner. The CPCB filed  areport with theNGT submitting that the waste generated by these illegal dairies was not being disposed of accordingly.

The NGT was apprised that the GMC has been issuing notices to the illegal dairies by asking them to shift elsewhere and FIRs had been filed.

However, the Tribunal not satisfied directed the GMC and the UPPCB to take concrete action against these dairies and file a status report.
