Coming down hard on Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) regarding non-compliance of NOC conditions given to Wave City, Ghaziabad and Hi-Tech City Noida 1. Or Uppal Chadha Hi Tech Developers (Wave-Hi-Tech Township) the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in a Jan 16 order had summoned the “CEO” or the head of the CGWA to appear before it. The NGT was particularly aghast that despite several deficiencies and violations on the part of the builder, as well as the number of such cases increasing every day and lack of proper monitoring mechanism thereof, there was no meaning to the regulatory functions entrusted with the CGWA.

The CGWA had apprised the Tribunal about non-compliance by the builder namely the non-existence of piezometers in the tubewells at the project site as well as non submission of water quality reports in addition to several other violations. The builder was granted NOC for groundwater extraction through a number of tubewells by the CGWA despite only 40-50 families living there. The matter will be further heard on March 27.
