Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has issued a notice to JP Golf Course in Greater Noida after a complaint regarding illegal extraction of groundwater by it was made over the online complaint portal by environmentalist Vikrant Tongad, who had earlier also complained against the illegal water extraction by the same organization in Noida. The complaint alleges that no NOC has been taken by the golf course authorities.

Notice by GNIDA Senior Manager, RA Gautam states that as per complaint JP should inform as to how many borewells are there in its golf course and NOC for which one(s) has been taken in 3 days and at which level, failing which appropriate action will be taken against them.

Notably, it is the CGWA that grants NOCs for groundwater abstraction in Noida however several developers and infra companies are drawing groundwater surreptitiously. The new Groundwater Act constituted by Uttar Pradesh Government also expressly states that no borewells can be run without proper permission or registration.

Tongad pointed out that he had earlier brought the rampant misuse of groundwater by JP Golf Course in Noida to the notice of the National Green Tribunal.
