SPUWAC, Delhi Police concludes self-defence session for women empowerment


Self Defence Wing of “Special Police Unit for Women and Children” (SPUWAC) under “SASHAKTI” scheme of Delhi Police, in its continuous endeavor since 2002, organized concluding session of Self Defence Techniques Training Programme for 1,000 girl students at Kendriya Vidhyalya, Gole Market, Delhi on 12.12.2019 which was held  for 10 days free of cost. 

Nuzhat Hassan, Special Commissioner of Police, Women Safety, SPUWAC & SPUNER was the Chief Guest. Others present were David Lalrinsanga, Jt.CP/SPUWAC&SPUNER, Geeta Rani Verma, DCP/SPUWAC, Deepak Yadav, Addl. DCP-I/New Delhi District and other dignitaries.  

In this programme participants have been made aware about safety measures as how to act in any untoward situation and to prevent chain snatching, stalking, eve-teasing or physical assault by using self-defence techniques. Participants were also sensitized about cyber stalking, safeguards while using social media, gender sensitization and salient feature of Himmat Plus app. The exclusive feature was to spread awareness amongst participants about disadvantages of single use plastic and to adopt alternatives of single use plastic, that is cloth/jute bag, metal/glass bottle. Pamphlets containing all information/details of helpline numbers were also distributed to the participants and Nukkad Natak on “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan” were also organized.

Nuzhat Hassan, Special CP/WS, S&S expressed satisfaction to see the girl students showing keen interest in learning Self Defence Techniques and that they feel empowered and capable to handle any emergent situations.  

On this occasion a pledge for keeping cleanliness were also taken by all girls student and Certificate of Participation were also distributed to the participants.
