Delhi: Films with social message screened at Police Training School & College


Today special screening of the National Award winning film Daughters of Mother India and Sonrise were screened at Police Training School, Sec. 9, Dwarka and Police Training College Jharoda Kalan respectively, in presence of film director Vibha Bakshi. This was part of a series of events being organized around the world to mark activism against gender violence. One of the highlights of the program was recruit officers raising awareness about the importance of this crucial issue in the society and the role forensic science and DNA to fight rape and the importance of ‘’Saving the Evidence’ by wearing specially designed t-shirts.

Film “Daughters of Mother India” directed by Vibha Bakshi is about aftermath of horrific rape and murder of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi on 16th December 2012. Since then the country has witnessed extraordinary gender consciousness and solidarity among citizens like never before.

Another national award winning film Sonrise by Vibha Bakshi screened at PTS/JK is about the rampant female foeticide in rural Haryana which led to unequal sex ratio and dangerous increase of unmarried men and trafficking of brides from other part of the country.

Michi Paku, Principal, PTC and Suman Nalwa, Principal, PTS Dwarka alongwith undergoing trainees and staff also watched these movies during screening. On this occasion, Suman Nalwa emphasized on the need for gender sensitization and elimination of violence against women among police officers and recruits.

The 2019 theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is “Orange the World”, Generation Equality stands against Rape” placing focus on those who have suffered rape. reporter
