Delhi: Cops on strike; demand action against lawyers who beat colleagues

Policemen are protesting at the police headquarters despite assurances by the Commissioner

Hundreds of ‘jittery’ cops today protested outside the Delhi Police headquarters in an unusual face-off that came about as a result of recent clashes between lawyers and police at Tis Hazari courts. However the lower rung of the police force today vented its grievances against the alleged humiliation they have been facing for long not just from lawyers at various courts but also from others. One placard that read was “How is the Josh’ with the reply:”It’s Low sir” that sums up the mood of the protesting cops.
Commissioner Amulya Patnaik appealed to the protesting cops to return to their duties assuring them of a rightful solution.
However a Bar Council spokesperson said that lawyers who has attacked the police will be dealt with in a stern manner, however the police should also punish those who has fired at the lawyers at Tis Hazari thereby causing grievous injuries. reporter
