Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam turned into a battle zone today with a number of councilors opposing the proposals in the board meet, for laying of sewer lines and other proposals. Councilors were accused of using unparliamentary language and making personal remarks against the GNN officials including the municipal commissioner, as pr a press statement released by the office of GNN municipal commissioner.
As per the GNN, proposals to connect Krishna Engineering College and Nikay Housing Society were rejected by the BJP councilors themselves, some of whom said that the college belonged to Atul Garg, the BJP minister of UP and that such a proposal is to benefit him. However, as per the GNN, the proposals were for larger public good and the GM Water Works announced so in the venue.
The councilors, especially BJP councillor Rajendra Tyagi also opposed the move to provide 4,000 sq mts of land for RRTS (rapid rail project) that according to the GNN statement is a project of immense public benefit and has been mooted by the Centre and the state. As per the GNN statement Tyagi said that all municipal commissioners want to destroy Ghaziabad, upon which the municipal commissioner lodged a protest.
Councillor Sunil Yadav alleged that a person heading a CSC centre was dominating the GNN officials and all officers and employees including the municipal commissioner were afraid of him. Again this was protested by the officials.
Both the mayor and the municipal commissioner left the board meet among chaos. The municipal commissioner has written to the DM, Meerut commissioner as well as the state government about the indecent behaviour of these councilors towards the GNN staff that has been a humiliating experience.
