Delhi: Crime Branch busts fake passport, visa racket; 7 held

The gang usually targeted young job aspirants from Nepal who wanted to get jobs in foreign countries

Crime Branch, Delhi Police busted a gang of cheats and arrested 7 persons including travel agents, middlemen, printer, among others, who used to target young job aspirants (mostly from Nepal) on the pretext of providing them good job in Canada with handsome salary. The gang use to give fake visa and then disappear. 

The gang usually targeted young job aspirants from Nepal who wanted to get jobs in foreign countries. They allured them initially at Nepal by giving them false assurance of providing them good job in Canada. Thereafter, they took an initial amount from them at Nepal itself and then they used to call them to Delhi and take their passports for allegedly depositing them in the Embassy of Canada for the purpose of applying for the visa. However, instead they would affix forged visa stickers on their passports and send them (victims) pictures of visa stickers on their mobile phones through WhatsApp and after taking balance amount they would disappear.

A complaint was received in SIU-I, Crime Branch, Delhi from the Embassy of Nepal alleging therein that 3 Nepal nationals namely Sushil Joshi, Keshab Singh Bisht and Deepak have been cheated to the tune of Rs 14-15 lakhs by one Jitendra Sharma, Bijay Chopra, Biren Bist and Binod on the pretext of providing them good job in Canada. A joint complaint was given by the victims alleging therein that they were looking for job opportunity abroad in Canada and in due course, they met one Nepali national Jitender Sharma alias Jeetu at Kathmandu, Nepal who assured them to provide work/multi-purpose visa of Canada with good job.

Accordingly, they started to chat with Jitender through WhatsApp on his mobile. After some time, they came in contact of Vijay Chopra through Jitender for the above purpose of obtaining Visa of Canada. They were called from Nepal to Delhi by Jitender and Vijay Chopra. The accused took their passports and also further payment taken from them in cash as their fee for providing them Canadian visa. A medical checkup of the victims on different dates at Green Park Diagnosis Centre, Green Park, Delhi was also done. After completing the whole process, the alleged persons Vijay Chopra, Vinod and Jitender showed photo of Canadian visa to the victims on their phones and after taking money from them, the alleged persons disappeared.

Immediately, after the registration of the case, a team was constituted under the leadership of Sandeep Lamba,  ACP/Crime Branch, Delhi. Onthe basis of investigation the accused Jitender was arrested from Delhi and later on accused Pradeep Kumar Kattamuri and Vipin Sharma were arrested. Passports of the above mentioned victims were recovered from their possession on which forged visa stickers of Canada were found affixed.

These forged visa stickers were provided to them by accused Gagan Singh alias Sardar. Accordingly, Gagan Singh was arrested and from whose possession, more forged visa stickers were recovered. The accused Gagan further disclosed that the said forged visa stickers were provided to him by the accused- Asha Rani. She was also arrested in the present case and interrogated. She disclosed that the forged visa stickers of different countries are provided to her by Vijay and further she had sold them to the above arrested 3 accused persons through Sardar. Vijay has also been arrested. He disclosed that the forged visa sticker are prepared by one Manjeet Singh alias Babbu who has an office at Paharganj, New Delhi.

After having sufficient evidence accused Manjeet was also arrested and on his pointing out a complete unit of printing/preparing forged visa stickers and passports was identified and from there different incriminating documents including forged visa stickers of Canada and Schenegen, forged passports, forged bio-data pages of Indian passports, UV Light reader, other machines and other instruments/dyes/blocks used for putting forged stamps (dry and ink), Hologram stickers etc. have been recovered.

A computer designing workshop situated at Jahangir Puri was also raided from where accused Manjeet Singh used to get printed the above forged visa stickers and forged Indian passports. The owner of this computer designing workshop Jitender Gupta has also been arrested. printers, scanners, forged visa stickers (including blank visa stickers),forged bio-data pages of Indian passport have were recovered.

The mobile phones of the accused persons have incriminating data in the form of images, voice recordings and chatting/messages related to the investigation of the present case.
