Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, Okhla, had submitted a report to DM Ghaziabad, of encroachments on its green belt alongside Hindon Pusta Road in Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad. The green belt has been usurped by land mafia that has built religious structures upon it. This was disclosed by an official of Irrigation Department. Earlier, the Department has lodged FIR against the mafia at Indirapuram Police Station.
However, the official pointed out that any further action against the encroachers can be done only with proper police reinforcements hence the DM has been apprised about the incident. Additionally, details of the encroachments have been uploaded on the Anti-Bhu Mafia portal of the Uttar Pradesh Govt.
The official also said that such encroachments also ought to be removed in light of Supreme Court directions on illegal squatters on government land.
Notably, these illegal religious structures have come on the green belt area in the last decade or so, however successive governments have taken no action against these encroachers who are also polluting the area, said many residents. Vasundhara and Vaishali residents pointed out that encroachers have electricity and water connections that shows their level of complicity with officials.
Petty politicians of the area are said to be behind these encroachments, however the reality will be known once action is taken against them.
