Taking strong note of use of plastic items including plates, cups, glasses and spoons in a bhandara organized at Motorcraft- Maruti dealer along Link Road (near Vaishali Metro), Municipal Commissioner of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) Dinesh Chandra Singh directed his team of Vasundhara Zone to visit the spot to find details of violations.

The incident happened yesterday and was seen by the Municipal Commissioner while he was returning from Delhi.

On his directions to act against the violator, a team led by zonal head, Sunil Kumar Rai, SFI Yogendra Kumar and other staff reached Motorcraft. It was found that the owner was organizing a bhandara without permission and banned plastic was rampantly being used. Upon violation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and UP Plastic and Other Biodegradable (Regulation of use and Disposal) (amendment) ordinance 2018, a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on Motorcraft by the Vasundhara zonal team and this amount was today deposited in the GNN’s account.

Notably, use of plastic items have been banned in UP since the last October and Municipal Commissioner, Dinesh Chandra Singh has been quite stringent about implementing this ban in Ghaziabad since he took charge. Singh has also appealed to the public once again not to use plastic & thermocol plates and items in private functions and in bhandaras as this will attract penal provisions.

It has also been clarified from the GNN’s side that after depositing user charge the GNN will provide steel utensils to organizers of such events if they make such a request.
