Despite ban on use of polythene in Uttar Pradesh several violations are being reported daily; however Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) has been continuously taking action against reported violations on instructions of Municipal Commissioner, Dinesh Chandra Singh.

Kirana Mandi—under City Zone of the GNN—seems to have become the hub of illegal plastic trade. Yet again on a complaint received by the GNN a raid was carried out and 240 kgs of plastic material stacked in 6 sacks was seized from a trader Mukesh Kumar. The consignment was being ferried across in an e-rickshaw however Sudhir Sharma, City Zone chief managed to rack and seize it. A penalty of Rs 50,000 was imposed on the trader.

The team then seized 250 kgs of plastic material from another trader of Kirana Mandi namely Anil Arora who runs a bakery. A fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on him.

The GNN team also warned the traders not to deal in plastic and polythene.
