Sunil Kumar Rai, Zonal chief led the anti-encroachment drive today

Several jhuggis were razed to the ground by an enforcement team of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) in Vasundhara locality of Ghaziabad. According to Vasundhara Zone chief Sunil Kumar Rai who led the anti-encroachment drive, more than 200 jhuggis were demolished.

Residents of nearby areas had for long been complaining about these illegal jhuggis that had encroached upon a large chunk of government land in Sector 14, Vasundhara. Although the GNN had planned the drive earlier it could not carry out the same due to non-availability of police force.

Over the years Vasundhara and Vaishali colonies had seen a large influx of encroachers who had occupied green belts and other vacant land. In the present case residents had alleged that these jhuggis has primarily become a den of illegal activities such as drug peddling, bootlegging among others. Also, several suspicious persons were living here, pointed out the area residents. They said that the GNN should now ensure that the encroachers do not come back again after some time. –delhincrnews.in reporter
