Haryana to draw up water conservation schemes in each district

In urban areas, work will be done in a planned and timely manner to achieve the goals of rainwater harvesting, sewerage treatment system, plantation and other related points

Taking a step towards water conservation the Haryana government under the ‘Special Water Conservation Campaign’ will be coming up with District Water Conservation Schemes under which various places of rainwater harvesting will be marked especially in the district areas.

A meeting to this effect was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Keshni Anand Arora in New Delhi recently. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary gave special directions for the successful implementation of the ‘Special Water Conservation Campaign’ initiated by the Haryana Government under the Prime Minister’s ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’.

It was informed in the meeting that in addition to government buildings, rainwater harvesting system will also be expanded to other buildings. The old plants of the rainwater harvesting system will be will be repaired and made operations, and 100 borewells/places will be marked in each district area in order to extend the rainwater harvesting process. Apart from this, natural water resources and ponds will also be rejuvenated and plantation drive will also be involved in the expansion of green area. It was also informed that in urban areas, work will be done in a planned and timely manner to achieve the goals of rainwater harvesting, sewerage treatment system, plantation and other related points.

The Chief Secretary directed the officers in different 19 districts of the state through video conferencing for successful implementation of the campaign. She stressed on the need of regular submission of details from time to time and share with each other, the inspirational works done in district areas in the direction of rainwater harvesting. The Chief Secretary also stressed on the need of non-governmental organizations and corporate sector working together in the rainwater harvesting campaign.

In view of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’, Urban Local Bodies Minister, Kavita Jain, while fixing the responsibilities of officers also laid down the necessary guidelines under which the role of students towards spreading awareness.
