IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU) signed an MoU on June 13 for mentoring, academic support and guidance of the new Department of Architecture and Planning at IIT (BHU), Varanasi. The MoU signing took place at IIT Roorkee between Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee and Prof. Pramod Kumar Jain, Director IIT (BHU).
The collaboration with IIT Roorkee, which is known as a leading institution with a long standing and well established Department of Architecture and Planning, will be helpful in this endeavor. The Institutes will undertake activities which include exchange of scientific & technical information, collaborative research activities, faculty & staff visits, joint supervision of Post Graduate (including Ph.D) students, joint organisation of seminars & conferences and sharing the databank of information through their libraries.
Varanasi is one of the oldest cities and a centre for cultural and architectural heritage. To fulfil the needs of this holy city and nearby regions, a new department of Architectural and Planning is being created at IIT (BHU).
This development will in particular help introduce efficient solutions for the city of Varanasi and the Purvanchal area. This may be scalable and adaptable to other similar geographies, in India and abroad.
“We hope that this MoU shall bring two of the oldest institutions of the country closer. As someone who has worked in both these great institutions earlier, it is indeed a momentous occasion for me personally” said Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director IIT Roorkee.
Prof. PK Jain, Director IIT BHU said, “This signing ceremony is very special occasion for me and it’s a great honour for me to sign this MoU between two great institutions of this country. IIT Roorkee has a privilege of having the oldest Department of Architecture & Planning among IITs and IIT BHU starting Department of Architecture & Planning with the help of IIT Roorkee from coming academic session in its centenary year as respect to its founder Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji to realise his dream of conservation of ancient Indian Heritage & Culture through education.
He further added, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all whose dedication and efforts have contributed to achieve this milestone.”
