Eighteen students are feared dead in a tragic fire that engulfed a coaching centre in Surat, Gujarat. Many students who died are in the age group of 14-17 years. The fire broke out in the coaching centre in the afternoon at around 3.30 pm. Many children started jumping from the 4-storey building after the people below egged them to do so while they tried to save their lives, it is being reported. Many students are critical however their lives were saved.
At least 19 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The owners of the building are absconding. The fire had been controlled to a great extent by the evening hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat Government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.”
