With encroachments on roadsides having become a chronic problem in Ghaziabad, the RWA Federation Ghaziabad, an umbrella body of different RWAs in Ghaziabad has demanded an end to encroachments caused by street vendors as well as others. In a letter to the DM and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) VC, the Federation through its Chairman, Colonel Tejandra Pal Tyagi (retd) has asked them to take strict action against the encroachers and to demolish the illegal constructions by house owners spilling over to the roads. Col Tyagi is also the President of Flat Owners Federation, Ghaziabad.
According to RWA Fed., the city faces mainly 3 kinds of encroachments: The first is the encroachments caused by street vendors; the 2nd category of encroachers are small, medium & bigger ones; and the 3rd category of encroahers are the house owners (individual) who often extend their boundaries by making gardens, ramps and parking spaces that spill over to the roadsides and on roads thereby obstructing pedestrian movemous.
According to the Federation, such encroachers (3rd type) are the most dangerous.
The Federation gives solutions that can be implemented to solve the problem. The first step is to identify the footpaths and public spaces and then the next step should be to invite the citizens to raising awareness.
