A gang of pickpockets that employed a young boy to steal mobiles and wallets from persons at public places was busted by East District police. A complaint was made to the police by one Lakshay Chouhan in which he said that on Jan 26 he came to V3S Mall to watch movie ‘Manikarnika’ and was standing in a queue at box office to buy a movie ticket. Before he reached the counter, his purse and mobile were stolen from his pocket.
Thereafter, the complainant searched for his belongings in the vicinity and questioned a suspected boy but that boy managed to escape in the crowded place. Thereafter, CCTV footage was checked and one boy was seen in the CCTV camera stealing the mobile phone and purse from the pocket of the complainant. The next day or on Jan 27, the complainant again visited the V3S Mall in search of his belongings and saw the same boy. The complainant asked the boy why he was roaming there and saw one MI mobile black colour in his pocket. He informed the police upon which a team of cops from Preet Vihar Police Station reached the spot.
The child disclosed that a person called Sunil Mehto, a resident of Naya Tola, Kalyani, Sahib Ganj, Jharkhand brought him to Delhi to steal mobile phones from crowded places. The child further revealed that he is doing the same job on the directions of Sunil Mehto for the last 6 months in Delhi and Patna. Sunil used to sell the stolen phones in Jharkhand and other states. The police also detained 2 more accused persons namely Bhupender from Khoda, Ghaziabad and Bihari Chaudhary. Seven stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
