Gurugram DC Vinay Pratap Singh had issued a show cause notice to 2 schools namely DPSG School Palam Vihar and Gyandeep School for not having proper mechanism in place for safety of students. He has also asked these schools to ensure that such safety mechanisms are put in place as desired by the district administration otherwise the schools will be taken over by the administration. He was presiding over a meeting of schools safety committee.
The district administration has through a draw of lots had selected 15 schools and had formed 3 teams to keep a tab on schools. He said that safety of school children is among the topmost priorities of the administration. He added that schools should take the safety audit on a more serious note.
The school safety committee mainly checks whether the schools have or not:fire safety certificate; CCTV recording capacity; proper and safe toilets for children; police verification of teaching & non-teaching staff; CCTV cameras in school buses; female attendants in buses; helpline nos on notice boards; hygiene certificate; driving license; boundary wall; ramps withing school precincts; among other such measures.
Singh said that the schools must ensure proper verification of teaching and non-teaching staff. The school buses should also be equipped with proper speed governors and shold not violate speed of 50 km/hr.
The safety audit of 15 selected schools will start on Dec 15. The meeting comprised apart from DC, ADC RK Singh, ACP Hq Dharna Yadav, ACP Traffic Hawa Singh, Civil Surgeon, Municipal Corporation, Dr Brahmdeep Sandhu, Dist. education officer, Dinesh Shastri and others.
