A person was arrested for cheating gullible villagers through the use of Aadhar Enabled Payment System. The accused Shashi Bhushan Yadav was registered with Yes Bank for running a mobile kiosk (micro ATM) through which he used to scan the thumb impression of villagers and matching them with their Aadhar helped to facilitate payment withdrawal through an App and finally paid cash to the villagers. A finger scanner and a mobile phone was seized from him. The details were shared by SP Akash Tomar.

The accused told the police that he turned greedy and decided to use the finger scanning to withdraw money from innocent villagers’ accounts. For this he chose a distant village where he went and posed as a PAN card agent designated by the government. Villagers who came to him were asked to give their thumb impressions and account details, using which he got the money transferred from their accounts.  He withdrew Rs 10,000 each from accounts of 2 village folk while the third was saved as she did not have enough money in the account. The fraud came to light after the police checked the registration details with the bank.

The accused was arrested by a team of Khalilabad Police Station. The police is investigating similar cases of fraud to try to connect the dots.
