Hundreds of school children, RWA members and residents, apart from Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) staff, administration and GDA joined hands in ‘Special Swachhata Rally’ organized by GNN.

Urban Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Kumar Khanna, G’bad MP Gen VK Singh (retd), Mayor Asha Sharma, Sahibabad MLA Sunil Sharma and other MLAs of Ghaziabad district, Municipal Commissioner, Chandra Prakash Singh, DM Ritu Maheshwari, GDA VC Kanchan Verma, SSP Upendra Kumar Agrawal, GNN councilors, principals, as well as scores of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The event could be said to be the brainchild of Municipal Commissioner Chandra Prakash Singh who has been at the forefront of Swachhata campaign in the city and under his leadership the GNN is vying for top rankings in Swachhata Survekshan 2019 as well as top place in Smart City race.

Singh said that he believes that children should be the focus of Swachhata campaigns as they are citizens of future and hence scores of children were part of this special drive. He said that we can keep our cities clean only with cooperation of the public for whom this drive has been launched. Around 20,000 children from across 120 schools participated in the event.

The Swachhata Rally began from Meerut T-point then passed through Thakurdwara Cut, GDA Flyover, Collectorate Cut and then Kavi Nagar Ramleela Ground wherein school children formed a human chain that was 4.3-km-long.

From Kavi Nagar Ramleela Ground the rally again proceeded to St Mary’s Overbridge, Hapur Intersection and ten back to Ramleela Ground travelling a distance of 6.5 km.

Hordes of school children showcased cultural programmes and played band mesmerizing the gathering. People also took an oath of Swachhata and to improve the rankings of Ghaziabad in Swachhata Survekshan 2019.

The school children also showcased their talent by displaying models on the theme of waste management that was much appreciated by the minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.

The minister was very happy to see the passion among school children regarding the rally and the whole event. While addressing the gathering he said that ‘Swachhata Samitis’ in each ward should raise awareness about keeping our surroundings clean. reporter
