A minor incident of natural gas leakage has been reported in pipeline network of GAIL (India) Limited at Decathlon, Bengaluru in early morning at around 4 am today caused by the Bengaluru Metro Construction work. As a safe precautionary measure, Bengaluru Traffic Police has taken appropriate traffic measures to divert the traffic to alternative routes. Quick Response Team reached to the site and immediate repair work has started.
Underground Natural Gas Steel Pipeline of eight inch diameter got punctured during the digging operation of Bengaluru Metro Construction work and same was immediately reported by the safety patrol team of GAIL. Affected area is from Mahadev Pura to Decathlon which is of approximately two kms stretch and natural gas is being supplied to customers along the affected stretch through mobile cascades.
Natural Gas pipeline has been laid as per the safety standards prescribed norms. Necessary civic permission is required for undertaking the construction work by any agency, but no permission was taken by Bengaluru Metro from GAIL.
The team of GAIL (India) Limited and GAIL Gas Limited are undertaking intensive repair measures to address the damage in the pipeline. Management assured that regular gas supply will likely be resumed by the end of the day today. An FIR is also filed by GAIL on the incident at the Mahadev Pura Police Station to safeguard people and property of the city of Bengaluru.
