Despite being law abiding citizens in paying taxes, residents of Vasundhara Zone of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) have mainly been at the receiving end when it comes to streetlights. This is especially so in Vasundhara’s Sector 11, 12, 13, 15, 17 & 19 where many streetlights are lying defunct. Notably, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) Light Inspector Rajkishor has been promising that he would get the streetlights repaired before Dussehra but even after the festive season of Diwali has kickstarted (with full moon) there does not seem to be an end to the travails of the residents, who say that several complaints made with regard to streetlights have not been attended to.
A resident of Konark Enclave in Sector 17 Vasundhara, Arun Shukla remarked that despite complaining to GNN time and again streetlights of Sector 17 and nearby Sector 15 have not been made functional. Moreover, even the LED lights that were installed by the erstwhile private company do not emit powerful light and there is always a fear of anti-social elements. In fact, chain snatchers have been on the prowl in Vasundhara area knowing well that it will be easier to commit snatchings in the dark as streetlights are not fully functional.
Another resident Pooja Bisht who is an office goer remarked that for women who alight from shared autos they had to walk some distance to reach Sector 17 and it was scary to walk in dark and under dimly lit streetlights.
Light Inspector Rajkishor claimed that the GNN had repaired dysfunctional streetlights in several blocks of Sector 17 (that is a large sector) while some are yet unattended. But he was at a loss to explain why those LED streetlights that couldn’t be repaired are also not getting replaced.
Notably, the Vasundhara Zone Light Inspector was transferred a few months back but somehow managed to come back to hold this post once again.
