Despite Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN)’s claims of rectifying the disturbed water supply to Vasundhara Sector 17 the water supply to one of the most populous sectors of Vasundhara today failed miserably with residents receiving only 10 minutes supply in the morning. Sector 17 comprises group housing flats built by UP Avas Evam Vikas Parishad mainly divided into Blocks A, B, C, D, E, F, G & H where thousands of people live.
JE Somendra Pratap Singh informed that the valve of pumping station at Sector 15 became dysfunctional leading to this problem. He claimed that water supply will be normalised tomorrow.
However, several residents who had been staying here for long said that water supply to Sector 17 has remained erratic even in the summer months when Ganga water supply is available. A resident of Konark Enclave in Sector 17 pointed out that “not only the duration of the water supply has come down but also the pressure.” He said that after suspension of Ganga water supply the flats situated on 2nd & 3rd floor were not receiving any supply at all.
This situation has led to residents opting for private borewells or submersible pumps that are not only costly but are also illegal. But many residents who did not wish to be named remarked that there was no choice available to them with the Nigam’s failure to supply sufficient water.
Notably this year, since suspension of Ganga water supply residents have been only receiving a 20 minute supply except yesterday.
