Sant Kabir Nagar Police have busted a gang involved in black-marketing of kerosene oil meant for ration-card consumers. In this regard 4 accused were nabbed by the police. They are namely Hariprasad, Neeraj Gupta, Tar Babu Tiwari and Somnath Tiwari. Around 3400 litres of kerosine that was being ferried across for illegal sale in a pick-up vehicle in 17 drums was seized from the accused. As there were no documents to show that the kerosene was legal the accused were detained. Although the section 3/7 is a crime under Essential Commodities Act, permission of DM is needed and is being sought to file a case against the accused, the police informed.
Modus Operandi
The accused namely manager of a depot Tar Babu and clerk Somnath Tiwari used to buy kerosene oil (that is available through the ration quota at Rs 27.40) at Rs 40 a litre from various complicit ration dealers. Later these 2 sold this kerosene to Neeraj Gupta and Harprasad at Rs 44 a litre who later on sold this in the black market at Rs 49-50 a litre.
Incharge SWAT Team Sanjay Kumar Pandey, SI Rajkumar Pandey, SI Khush Mohammad and other cops busted the racket.
