Presently thousands of farmers are battling it out to get into Delhi even as Delhi Police is making use of water canons and tear gas to keep them at bay. A huge rally of farmers fighting for their rights has descended down in Ghaziabad earlier bringing the traffic movement to a standstill. It is estimated that around 80,000 farmers are there in the rally marching down from Muradnagar in Ghaziabad to Vaishali. The farmers mostly under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) have decided to march up to Rajghat today. Earlier, they had demanded to meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh but instead CM Yogi Adityanath and a posse of ministers and officials met the farmer leaders late evening on October 1. The farmers are largely demanding the payment of cane arrears that are due to them by the sugar mill owners, however they have other smaller demands as well.

Top police and administrative officials of Meerut Division had tried to reason with the protesting farmers but the farmers insisted on marching towards Delhi.
