Representatives of Nordic countries today organized a workshop at Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) on Sustainable Smart City. Nordic countries comprise nations of North Europe namely Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. They were led by Ambassador of Finland to India Nina Vaskunlahti. Mayor Asha Sharma presided over the workshop in which Municipal Commissioner, Chandra Prakash Singh was also present.

All councilors of GNN, and councilors of other urban local bodies of Ghaziabad were also invited.

Nordic countries have set up Nordic Innovation organization to assist in promoting modern techniques to developing nations to enhance their lifestyle.

The representatives of these countries discussed and shared modern techniques in use in their nations and what these meant in Indian context, especially with regard to Smart City. Norway’s Member of Parliament Himanshu Gulati also participated in the workshop.

Director, KPMG, Sameer Jain gave a presentation on making Ghaziabad  Smart City. The Nordic representatives also said that cities and countries lthat are yet developing should consider it as an opportunity and not challenge to experiment with innovation in dealing with several civic problems to finally come up as a Smart Nation.

Both, Municipal Commissioner and the Mayor said that dealing with plastic is a challenge in waste management and asked the Nordic representatives to come forward to offer a solution.
