Specialised Crack Team of Mayur Vihar Sub Division apprehended 4 desperate snatchers and autolifters including one minor – involved in over 17 cases with a recovery of 9 stolen bikes and 4 stolen mobile phones. They used to steal motorcycles parked unattended on roads and streets in residential areas and use them to commit snatching. Strategy to use the wide CCTV network in Mayur Vihar area for identification of criminals resulted in immediate arrests and full recovery.
On June 11, a case was registered u/s 379 IPC at PS Mayur Vihar on the complaint of a victim who runs a Kirana store in Trilokpuri regarding the theft of his bike Suzuki Gixer. Rahul stated that he had parked his bike in the gully and it was stolen from there by some unknown persons.
A crack team was dispatched to the spot where they looked for any available CCTV cameras. The CCTV footage was then widely shared amongst the police personnel and the staff at pickets and patrolling was alerted. By the same evening the two men were intercepted at the police picket at OCS Apartment with the stolen bike. The two persons were identified as Kishor alias Golu, r/o Trilokpuri, age 24 years with 6 previous involvements and Vishal, r/o Trilokpuri, age 25 years with one previous involvement.
Both Kishor and Vishal confessed that they were unemployed but longed to lead a life of comfort and luxury and maintained expensive tastes such as consuming expensive liquor and purchasing branded clothes; for this they would steal motorcycles and then snatch mobile phones from unsuspecting pedestrians and commuters.
In another case of a similar MO, FIR 197/18 u/s 379/356/34 was registered where two persons which included one minor had used a stolen motorcycle to snatch the mobile phone of the complainant who is a student of BSc in a college at Connaught Place and was commuting to Connaught Place early in the morning for his classes when his mobile phone was snatched.
In this case, the quick reaction of the patrolling staff of PS Pandav Nagar arrested the accused on the spot with the help of the public. He was identified as Monu alias Sonu a resident of Khichdipur, Kalyanpuri.
