Five notorious robbers, mostly natives of Bihar & Jharkhand were rounded up by Sihani Gate cops from Maliwara Chowk in the night of June 12. One minor was also detained along with them.
The police recovered 65 android mobile phones worth Rs 20 lakh, one Wagon R car, on stolen scooty and 3 knives. This information was shared by SSP Ghaziabad, Vaibhav Krishna. CO City II, Atish Kumar Singh was also present.
The bike borne accused used to work in a team where 2-3 accused would target and snatch the mobile phones of pedestrians and then quickly give away these stolen mobiles to their accomplices who were also riding a scooty or bike to get away quickly. They have been committing this crime in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida areas. Afterwards they used to sell off these mobile phones at Jharkhand—their native place. They admitted to have sold around 700 mobile phones by using this modus operandi.
The accused are namely Pinter Kumar, 32, Alopi Mahato, 24, Durga Mahato, 24, Shamsul Haq, and Nandan Kumar, 18. Excluding Shamsul Haq who lived in Timarpur all of the other accused were presently residing in 5th Pushta Bhajanpura, Delhi. One juvenile Gopal Kumar, 16 was also detained.
Shamsul Haq who is an advocate, would carry out robbery alongwith the accused and would later on turn up to fight their case in court, the police said.
The accused are history-sheeters with at least 8 known cases registered against them at various police stations in Delhi-NCR.
