Uttar Pradesh Police has commenced a twitter handle titled @UPPolNRI for NRIs, where they can make complaints and send feedback. According to UP Police so far they have received 5,61,460 tweets as complaints in many districts, out of which 1,27,652 have been taken forward for redressal. UP Police further claims that considering the ‘prompt response’ leading to popularity of their twitter handle, NRIs have been asking for a dedicated twitter service for use by them and hence, the twitter service for NRIs has been launched.
According to DGP, OP Singh this twitter service is for use by NRIs living in different countries. Each country will have a local coordinator to handle the service. Some days back UP Police had appointed one Supriya as the UK coordinator. Interested NRIs have been invited to become coordinators by tweeting on the handle or by sending an e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Digital coordinators will also be appointed for NRI twitter handle.
The UP Police will also undertake the task of sensitising the NRI community on various schemes and helpline numbers of the police.
