Supreme Court has asked the Government to help reduce pollution in Delhi first and implement the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) starting with the capital. A bench of Justice Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta said that the NCAP should be implemented in Delhi considering the high levels of pollution.
Additional Solicitor General ANS Nadkarni said that the NCAP had to be implemented across 100 cities in India but Delhi was a priority. He also remarked that within 4 weeks’ time a comprehensive plan to tackle air pollution will be unfolded in its entirety.
The SC bench also observed that the Delhi Govt. camplementn use the funds collected from the environment compensation charge (ECC) for purchasing remote sensing machines.
