The district administration has woken up to the need for afforestation in the district. Today the District Magistrate (DM), Ritu Maheshwari held a meeting of top district officials alongwith officials of Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), horticulture department of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN), as well as Forest Department emphasis was laid on planting more and more trees. Municipal Commissioner, CP Singh, ADM (Admin) Gyanendra Singh and other district and GDA officials were present in the meeting.
The DM said that afforestation drive should be carried on vacant land earmarked for the purpose and initial preparations regarding this drive should be commenced soon. She said that afforestation drive should effectively begin from June 20 onwards. She also said that tree guards and fencing should be done around these plots and parcels of land.
Such tree plantation drive should be carried on along the Hindon River, under the elevated Road, in industrial areas, parks, and all constituencies in the district.
Forest Official, BP Singh apprised the gathering that a target of planting around 1.05 lakh trees has been kept for the year, out of which the Forest Department will plant 48,750, GDA- 42,000, GNN- 10,000 and Horticulture- 5,000. The Forest Department will plant its quota of trees in an area of 31.28 hectare.
The Industry department and UPSIDC officials were directed by the DM to plant trees in all industrial areas in association with the industry. Around 3,500 trees are supposed to be planted in the industrial areas, the DM was apprised. However, the DM instructed these officials to plan as many as 10,000 trees.
