At the crack of dawn today at around 5 am, Municipal Commissioner of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN), Chandra Prakash Singh set out to take stock of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) points in the city in the zones of Vasundhara, Kavi Nagar and Vijay Nagar. 

On visiting the community toilet built by GDA at Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) it was found that there was no lighting facility at the toilet and the seat meant to be used by disabled (Divyangjan) was also broken. He then and there gave instructions to set the seat right. The public toilet near Apple Tree hotel was found to be unclean and littered. Singh reprimanded the operator there and gave instructions to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the toilet.

Singh then passed through the RDC roads and found them littered with polythene; upon this he asked the sanitary staff to clear the mess. Next, the Municipal Commissioner found a locked toilet built in green belt near Railway Station and asked the concerned staff to get it functional by the evening itself. Singh also was furious to see near RTO office, that an operator manning the toilet had kept some items for sale within the toilet premises in a vend. He ordered the vend to be removed. In the same vein he asked that another commercial activity at a Sulabh Toilet be done away with.

At Loha Mandi area also the same unclean conditions were found and on seeing this first-hand Singh asked the sanitation/health staff to get their act together or otherwise face the consequences.

At Vijay Nagar he found that the sanitation and cleanliness was not up to the mark and hence the sanitation/ health inspector was asked to clean the area and to stick with it. He also asked the staff to get a mobile toilet replaced as it was not in usable condition.

Chandra Prakash Singh also took stock of all community & public toilets between GT Road and Link Road and passed specific directions wherever necessary. He also reprimanded the sanitation inspector of Vasundhara Zone, Yogendra Yadav on not founding the cleanliness up to the mark at Seemant Vihar near Kaushambi.

He also asked the JE water works, Yogendra Yadav to oversee that the work pertaining to caving in of a road—due to laying of sewer pipeline at Sector 3 Vaishali—should be done as per terms and conditions laid out to the firm carrying out the task.

The Municipal Commissioner also asked to impose a penalty on IDC coaching centre for sticking up posters on public property. He also passed instructions to the chief engineer and zonal JE civil works for the repair of wall near Income Tax office at Vaishali.

All ODF teams, zonal chiefs of Vasundhara nd Vijay Nagar, chief engineer and other staff was present during Singh’s visit.
