Urban Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Khanna today presided over the closing ceremony of the Kachra Samadhan Mahotsav that began yesterday with an aim to sensitise people towards waste management and its recycling. He also hit upon the idea of having garbage ATMs that will help in disposing of waste items like plastic bottles, wrappers, polythene and other such waste. He said that these ATMs will also pay back an amount proportional to the waste disposed of through them.
Union Minister & Ghaziabad MP Gen. VK Singh (retd) said that the event has been successful in generating an interest in waste management and increasing awareness among the masses.
DM Ritu Maheshwari said earlier that Ghaziabad generates waste up to 1,200 MT every day. Where and how to recycle it is the main challenge; and Kachra Samadhan Mahotsav has given hope for its proper disposal and recycling. She also thanked school, colleges and public support for the event.
Ryan International School got the first prize for ‘Kabad se Jugad’ theme while Uttam Girls School and Guru Nanak Girls Inter college bagged the first prize for Best of Waste theme. Rally International School bagged the first prize in Eco Melody competition. Dharavi Band—made from waste was one of the main attractions of the event.
