District Magistrate & GDA Vice Chairman, Ritu Maheshwari has appealed to the people of Ghaziabad to take part in exhibitions and workshops on occasion of Kachra Mahotsav to be held on April 22-23 at Kavi Nagar Ramlila Ground, so as to be better informed about recycling of waste and making it useful and usable. While speaking to mediapersons, the GDA VC said that the event will showcase presentations on water recycling and management by school and college going children and youth, NGOs, self help groups and RWAs. She said that without public participation the waste generated in cities cannot be effectively disposed of and recycled.
On April 22 the Kachra Mahotsav will be inaugurated at around 3.30 in the afternoon by Union Minister and MP Ghaziabad, Gen. VK Singh (retd). Divisional Commissioner, Meerut, Dr Prabhat Kumar will also grace the occasion. A 5-km-long marathon run for 5,000 school children on Elevated Road will be held just ahead of this inauguration in the morning hours, it was informed. According to Maheshwari the plan is to achieve the target of zero waste.
