A team of Inspector Pankaj Arora of Special Investigation Unit, Crime Branch busted a gang involved in terrorizing and extorting the victims. The mastermind accused Sameer Siddiqui, 34, Sanjay alias Sahil, 27, along with their accomplices have been arrested. The arrested accused persons had been operating the gang for extorting money by ‘honey trapping’ their victims from different parts of Delhi and other cities also.
An information was received by SI Prabhanshu of SIU, Crime Branch about a gang involved in various incidents of ‘honey trapping’ and committing extortion from various people, and further it came to light that they were active in the area of Keshav Puram, Delhi. Information revealed that the gang had hired a flat at Keshav Puram, Delhi. The female accused were in touch with a number of persons and through Whatsapp, they would lure their victims to provide ‘service’ or for some other work.
When the deal with the client was fixed, they would also inform Sameer Siddiqui, Sanjay, among others. The female accused person used to get into intimate position with the victim and that very moment male accused persons posing as mediapersons and police officials would raid the premises. Accused Sanjay used to pose as a dummy policeman and used to thrash the victim, while the other would film it. Subsequently, the victim was threatened both with a criminal case and exposing him through the media. Due to fear and public shame, the victim would succumb to the pressure and end up paying extortion money.
