District Magistrate (DM) Ritu Maheshwari has come down hard on the use of polythene bags and on people keeping building material uncovered in violation of National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders. The administration has been repeatedly carrying out drives to penalize sellers of building & construction material and end-users, so that they keep the construction material covered to keep pollution levels under check.
It has been proposed in a meeting held today that the fine for keeping such building material uncovered will be Rs 10,000 for a plot measuring 100 sq. mt.; Rs 20,000 for a plot measuring 200 sq mt; a maximum of Rs 30,000 for plots between 200-500 sq mt; and, finally for plots larger than 500 sq mt the penalty will be Rs 50,000.
Similarly, for a plot measuring 20,000 sq mt this penalty will go up to Rs 5 lakh.
For curbing the use of polythene bags any shopkeeper using them as carry bags will face a minimum of Rs 1,000 and a max penalty of Rs 5,000. Further, those found storing building material will be fined to the tune of Rs 50,000 in one go.
