The North-West District cops arrested a ‘fake’ Uber driver, 25, who was driving in place of the original driver, for allegedly molesting a woman, it was informed by office of Aslam Khan, IPS & DCP (North-West Distt.).
On March 9, one Seema (name changed) booked an Uber cab from Kundli, Haryana for her residence in Sector-3, Rohini, Delhi. She initially noticed that the Uber cab had a white number plate instead of yellow plate and also had tinted glasses. En route, she became suspicious of the Uber cab driver as his face did not match with the image of the driver provided by Uber on her mobile app. Further, she felt threatened when he took the vehicle along a secluded route and also felt that the driver was making unwanted advances and expressions towards her.
Seema soon realized that he was taking a different route than the one she used to usually take for her home. When she tried to get out from the vehicle at a traffic signal, the driver locked the doors using central lock and threatened her. When car went ahead further and slowed down at CNG station near GTK depot, she took the opportunity to unlock the door and jumped out of the car. The driver absconded from the spot alongwith the vehicle. She gave a complaint regarding the incident at PS Mahendra Park. Immediately, a case at Police Station Mahendra Park was registered and investigation was taken up.
A team was formed under the supervision of Kumar Abhishek, ACP/Under training consisting of Inspector Virender Kadyan (SHO/Mahendra Park), Inspector Dhananjay Gupta (ATO- Mahendra Park), SI Sandeep, PSI Vikash, SI Pradeep, HC Rajender and Ct. Ajit under the overall supervision of Utkrisht Prasoon, IPS, ACP/Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. During investigation, the details of vehicles and driver were obtained from Uber and the origin of the vehicle was traced to Janti Kalan village in Sonepat, Haryana.
The team went to the village on the intervening night of March 9/10 and scouted the area on the look out of the vehicle. Ultimately the team successfully traced the vehicle in which one driver was lying in a drunken state. The cops arrested one Sanjeev alias Sanju, a resident of Gannaur, Haryana. He used to drive the vehicle even though he was not registered as the driver of the vehicle. It was also found that as alleged the vehicle was without commercial number plate. He also did not have a driving licence.
