Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij said that the process to set up 11 medical colleges is under progress whereas 11 other medical colleges are already functioning in the state. He said this while replying to a question in the Vidhan Sabha on March 6. The Minister said that the present state government was working to establish at least one medical college in each district.
The minister further said that the present state government has issued Letter of Intent to different trusts and organisations for setting up medical colleges. These included Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust, New Delhi for setting up medical college at Bahadurgarh, Miri Piri Charitable Trust at Kurukshetra and Shah Satnam Ji Research and Development Foundation at Sirsa. Apart from this, the Central Government has been requested to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences at village Manethi in district Rewari, for which approval would soon be granted. He said that for this, 200 acres in village Manethi was being made available on lease. Similarly, the state government has given in principle approval for opening government medical college at Mahendragarh.
Vij said that presently, five government medical colleges, a government aided and five private medical colleges were functioning in the state. These colleges have 1,500 seats of MBBS, he added.
