With a thunderous round of applause, over 800 girl students of LSR College for Women along with women students of NIFT and Jijabai Polytechnic welcomed the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Amulya Patnaik who was the Chief Guest at an event organized as part of Delhi Police Week at the Auditorium of LSR College to promote the usage of newly launched “Himmat Plus” App and “QR Coded” Public Transport Programme, as per a press statement.
Welcoming the Commissioner
The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp and welcome address by Dr. Suman Sharma, the Principal of LSR College. Welcoming the Police Commissioner, the Principal said that it was incumbent upon all members of the society to popularize the massive efforts being undertaken by the Delhi Police to ensure a city safe for women. Jointly hosting such events were a part of this sensitization and awareness process, which aims at bringing permanent, positive changes in the prevalent attitudes towards women and their issues. The Principal also informed the audience about the various women centric initiatives which have become a signature of the functioning of the Police Commissioner like “Pratidhi”, “Sashakti” etc. which have been received positively not just by the female populace but by the society as a whole.
This was followed by presentation of a melodious rendition of the LSR song by students which had sanskrit shlokas interspersed with hindi lyrics and conveyed the importance of dreams, education and freedom. After the song, a short film, an in-house production of LSR College was screened which emphatically conveyed the message that ‘The Change Starts Here; It Starts With Me’. A poetry recited by a student called for having an “App” for safety of women.
“Himmat Plus” App Film: Huge appreciation by students
The applause for the brilliantly shot and composed film was followed by the screening of the publicity film made by Delhi Police on the “Himmat Plus App” and “QR Coded” Public Transport Program. This film, as it started showcasing the unique features and utilities of the thoroughly user friendly App, saw the gaze of the audience getting more and more intense and appreciative. Collective voices were heard cheering the Delhi Police for bringing such an excellent and much needed Mobile Phone based Application which had women safety, especially when they are traveling using public transport, as it’s key motivation.
After the film, DCP, SPUWAC Isha Pandey encouraged the audience to enroll in the soon to begin self defence training programme at the college, being organized by South East District Police and realize their inherent strength.
“Sashakti” Short Film
Thereafter, the much acclaimed short film on “Sashakti”, Delhi Police’s self defence training program, was screened. All the film shots wherein trained and empowered girls and ladies were shown repelling and neutralizing criminals like chain/purse snatchers, eve teasers, pickpockets etc. were met with loud cheers and admiration.

With the audio-visual components of the event being over, the anchor invited the Chief Guest, Sh. Amulya Patnaik, the Principal and senior police officers on the stage where the customary felicitations were carried out. To add a personal touch, the Police Commissioner and senior police officers were presented with ‘anga-vastram’ or stoles along with flower pots by the Principal and faculty members of LSR College. The Commissioner of Police also presented a memorial plaque to the Principal and the Cultural Troupe of the college.
Key Note Address by CP, Delhi
This was followed by the keynote address by the Commissioner of Police who made a passionate appeal to the audience to download vigorously, use and further propagate the new “Himmat Plus App” and the “QR Coded” Public Transport Programme which was designed for the safety and security of women with a lot of efforts. Patnaik also reminded the students of LSR College that they are highly privileged to be a member of LSR College family and thus, had the higher social responsibility of educating and promoting the use of “Himmat Plus” App by the wider female society. The Police Chief went nostalgic while recounting his own personal connect with the college as the father of an alumni. He thanked the LSR College for Women administration to collaborate with the Delhi Police to carry forward it’s campaign towards women safety. The Commissioner of Police expressed that with collective efforts, the perception of Delhi being unsafe for women, will be countered and curated. He called upon the gathering to rise to their potential in the service of the nation and humanity and assured that doing everything possible to assist them in realizing their dreams was the ultimate binding commitment of the capital city’s police force.
Vote of Thanks
The function ended with a vote of thanks delivered by faculty of LSR College and refreshments. The event was organized by the Southern Range of Delhi Police and apart from the Police Chief, saw the participation of the heads of various policing units like Women Safety & Modernization, Traffic and Training. The Guest of Honour for the function was P. Kamaraj, Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, South Zone.
