Several environmental activists are aghast at the dumping of what they allege “tonnes of waste comprising plastic & polythene and other garbage’ near Hindon banks and under the Elevated Road by Kanwarias and these areas have been regularly being used as garbage dumping sites by unscrupulous people. These activists have now decided to file a case against the administration and civic agencies at Sihani Gate police station against the practise of dumping litter near Hindon.
In a letter issued to the press by Hindon Jal Biradari, a social organisation and signed by several green activists inlcuding Vikrant Sharma, Akash Vashishtha and others these activists have also alleged that an illegal road has been constructed to reach the bank from Raj Nagar Ext. area through which garbage is ferried across and dumped near the Hindon.
The activists have further alleged that in 2015 the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigm (GNN) used to dump garbage at this point (near Hindon bank) following which an FIR was lodged at Sihani Gate Thana and a petition was filed against the GNN at the National Green tribunal(NGT) and after which the NGT had asked the DM, GDA VC and GNN Commissioner to make way for scientific and proper segregation and disposal of waste in the city. The NGT also passed an order for a fine of Rs 20,000 on any person, agency or organization throwing garbage in/near Hindon.
The green activists also alleged that despite the NGT orders the practise of dumping the garbage along Hindon banks has been continuing and all government agencies of Ghaziabad have been indifferent to this illegality.
Akash Vashishtha also pointed out that complaints in this regard have been made to Commissioner Meerut Division as well as other higher-ups in the state government including the CM’s office.
