Though the working of Uttar Pradesh had come under a cloud after the ‘fake’ encounter at Noida—in which a SI shot and grievously injured a gym trainer—this had obviously not deterred them to pursue hardcore criminals. In the latest, Muzzfarnagar cops reportedly shot dead a dreaded criminal Vikas on Tuesday night, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head said. One of his accomplices managed to flee in the cover of darkness, reports said. In the shoot-out, two cops—one SI and one constable were also injured. They were admitted to the district hospital. Cops looked for the escaped criminal in the sugarcane fields but he could not be found.
It is noteworthy that Vikas is the same criminal who on had killed one aged woman and her son who were witness to a crime committed by him along with 2 of his accomplices on January 24 this year. The killings took place in Meerut’s Partapur. The police had rounded up both his accomplices while Vikas was on the run, prompting cops to announce a reward on his head.
