New scheme: Delhi Govt. to pay for ‘teerth yatra’ of senior citizens


The Delhi Govt. had come up with a scheme of enabling senior citizens in every Delhi constituency to go for ‘teerth yatra’ for which they will have to not pay even a penny. The scheme called the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana will enable at least 77,000 senior citizens to go on holy pilgrimages within India.

To avail of this scheme the citizen should be 60 years’ old and can take along an aide 18 yrs of age. In this case the government will also pay for the travel expenses of the attendant, it is learnt. The senior citizen should not be working under Central or state or local government or self-governing bodies. Applicants’ annual income also should not exceed Rs 3 lakh per annum.

Under the scheme the routes proposed for pilgrimage are

  • Delhi- Mathura-Vrindavan-Agra-Fatehpur Sikri-Delhi;
  • Delhi-Haridwar- Rishikesh-Neelkanth-Delhi; *
  • Delhi-Ajmer-Pushkar-Delhi;
  • Delhi- Amritsar-Bagha Border-Anandpur Sahib-Delhi;
