Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh, Dinesh Sharma presented the Draft Bill for Fee Regulation in private schools in UP, called the UP Self-Financed Independent School (Regulation of Fee) Bill, for which the parents’ associations have been fighting for. The Dy. CM said that private schools would have to fall in line and cannot overcharge; the schools also cannot hike fees midway through the session.
The development fee cannot be more than 15% of the total fees chargeable and can be used only for infra development in schools. Similarly admission fess cannot be charged arbitrarily but only at the time of new admissions. Similarly, tuition and exam fees will be chargeable at the time of promotion from class 5 to 6; 8 to 9; and, 10 to 11.
With the Draft Bill, parents in Ghaziabad and Noida are hoping that this will be the right step to rein in the schools making steep hike in school fees every year.
