In a first, the District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, Ritu Maheshwari has asked that all private works related to construction should be abandoned for a week’s time in the wake of air pollution prevailing in the city. The DM has appealed to the citizens to abandon such works as a precautionary measure. The DM also instructed the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam), Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), and all Nagar Palikas etc to make arrangements for sprinkling water on construction material and on main roads and dusty patches at least two times in a day- to keep air pollution levels down. All material used in construction should be covered with cloth and if found in open should be confiscated, Maheshwari instructed the district officials. Action will be taken against such violations, she said.
The DM also said that nobody should be found burning garbage out in open. She had also asked the officials to take action against several polluting industrial units and had sent a recommendation to close down at least 15 such polluting units. She had also asked that polluting generator sets etc. should be confiscated.
